As any parent of a newborn will tell you, sleep is the best thing ever and the thing in shortest supply. I finally got a full night’s sleep last night for the first time in over 3 months.
Before you get too excited though, it wasn’t because Isaac finally put in a full night’s sleep, it was because my wonderful husband let me sleep in the basement while he was on night duty. I think I fell asleep about 30 seconds after my head hit the pillow and stayed that way until just before he came down to wake me up. It was beautiful. Sorry ladies, I think I got the best husband in the bunch!
If you know me at all, you know that I highly value my sleep. According to my mom, I always have! Sometimes I think Ethan takes after me, sometimes not so much. The summer has made him into more of a morning person (I hope that resolves once the sun starts coming up later) but he can nap like, well, me.
He slept for 3.5 hours yesterday afternoon, and yes he went to bed on time last night, no problem. Isaac so far seems to not need as much sleep, which is a bit of a bummer. Maybe it’s just that he has a harder time getting there, I mean it is hard to sleep when your arms won’t stop flailing around and hitting you in the face. He’s outgrown being swaddled, that really makes him mad, but now I just put him in his sleep sack and zip his arms in, then he can still move a little but not hit himself so often. It works for now.
He is a lot like his brother in that they both like to go to sleep to music. As I write I can hear two different songs through the monitors – one from Ethan’s aquarium and one from Isaac’s rainforest. Hopefully in the very near future I will be able to write and say that Isaac is finally sleeping all the way through the night so that I can again too!
