For some reason my posts are showing the date of the day after I post them, not sure why. The county assembly was really not very interesting last night. Most people (me included) didn’t know what was going on most of the time and it wasn’t at all what I expected. Apparently I have to go to another meeting at the end of May, they (the infamous they) are supposed to let me know.
Ethan is taking a really long nap today, he could barely stay awake after lunch. Hopefully he’ll have some good awake time after he gets up. He’s learning how to drink out of a cup now and is doing ok at it. He still doesn’t much care for his veggies, but if I mix in enough fruit he likes it.
Well we finished the sanding yesterday, and no it was not fun. We started the staining today, but Ryan decided the color isn’t quite right so he’s going to get a different color and we’ll start again. It really is going to be a process, that’s for sure! Mr Bubbers is trying to pull himself up on things, not really sure how I feel about that. He can get his butt off the ground, but that’s about all for now. Still no teeth, but I’m fine with that as he likes to chew on my nose.
I got him a mesh bumper for his crib today so hopefully he won’t get stuck in his crib quite as often. He has a bumper that came with his bedding but Ryan’s afraid he’ll suffocate in it so that’s not on there. I started a quilt for him last weekend that should be pretty fun for me to work on (once I get some space) and I have no idea how long that will take to get done. I had MOPs this morning, I always enjoy going but it’s especially nice since now I can leave Ethan at home with daddy and go by myself. I’m going to the county assembly tonight as a delegate for my district, I’m not sure if I’m going to enjoy it, it’ll largely depend on how long it takes and how many people talk. But at least I don’t have to follow through and vote for Romney as he dropped out of the race after we caucused. Anyway, I’m mostly rambling today so I’ll go now!
To those of you who don’t know (which I’m guessing will be most people) “hackin’ some Ruby” is a geeky phrase for writing computer programming/coding in Ruby, which is Ryan’s favorite programming language. I made the onesie for daddy’s benefit and enjoyment.
The old saying is certainly true that it takes a village to raise a child. At least, it helps to have a village around you to help you and give you a break from raising a child! I have a bunch of great friends that are willing to help hold him and pass him around the table. Hopefully he’ll have a great immune system and less fear of strangers in the future!
My friend Alison’s baby shower was yesterday, and I never understood why mom’s chose to try to frighten me to death before Ethan was born with stories of labor pains and the great turmoil you go through when having a child, both during and after the process. I never understood that, that is until I became a mother and figured out that it’s a lot of fun to scare another person half to death having already lived through the experience!
Meggan and I had a great deal of fun comparing the life changing events that surround motherhood to the horror of our, as of yet, childless friends. There’s something deeply satisfying in sharing knowledge that they will on one hand be grateful to know and on the other hand cannot yet begin to comprehend. We just laugh and say one day you’ll know.
Ethan had his 6 month appointment today and therefore, yep you guessed it, shots! He should be done with those for a little while now though. He’s upstairs sleeping it off. He now weighs 19 lbs 1/2 ounce and is in the 75th percentile for weight. He’s also 28 inches long and in the 90th percentile. So he’s finally slowed down growing for a little while, hopefully I can keep him in clothes for longer than a month now! He’s already in 12 month clothes and should stay there for the time being.
He’s growing just like he should and already rocks back and forth on his hands and knees.
And all you moms out there will appreciate the grossness of a diaper that doesn’t quite hold all it’s supposed to. We had that unfortunate circumstance when I went to change him at the doctor’s office today. It was about the worst I’d ever seen with poo all the way up to his head! It took an entire pack of diaper wipes to get him to an acceptable state and I threw him in to the tub as soon as we got home, he needed a bath anyway but still! Oy.
Yep, today is another whiny day for Mr Bubbers, aka Ethan. I’m guessing he’s just really tired since he’s now quietly lying down for his 3rd nap today. Poor guy keeps getting stuck in his crib slats though. I’ve found him in some interesting positions over the past few days. He is now attempting to drink from a cup, albeit not very willingly. And he’s up on hands and knees rocking. I’m in big trouble once he actually figures out how to crawl! Not to mention the peril his feline sisters are in.
We finished all the molding (by we, I obviously mean Ryan) yesterday and I finished the wood putty. I started the sanding, but quickly abandoned that task and will now use Ethan as my excuse to get Ryan to finish that unpleasantness. Once the sanding is done, we will stain, varnish, and be done down in the depths of our dungeon, I mean basement. We’re not so silly as to do the carpet ourselves, we will hire some other individuals to do that. Then I can rid my family room of some of the baby stuff and move it downstairs where it can multiply like rabbits during playdates.
I’m going to try to write more often, using Melanie as my inspiration.
She has an uncanny knack for finding some humor in every day so I’m going to attempt to emulate her example. We’ll see how it goes! I don’t know that I’ll be able to post pictures every day though as that takes more time than you would think. Actually, I do know that I won’t post pictures every day, but I’ll try to do a few each week.
Ethan is 6 months old now, crazy huh? I finally managed to get some new pictures up today. I also put some up of the basement, we’re getting really close now. Ryan installed the last of the cabinets earlier this week after a second delivery since the first wasn’t complete and one cabinet had a large hole in it. He’ll finish up the rest of the molding this weekend and we’ll start staining hopefully on Monday. Once that’s done we can get the carpet and we’ll finally be finished! It’s only taken not quite 2 years.
Ryan has done a wonderful job done there, I’ll get more pictures posted as soon as it’s done.
Ethan is doing very well, I need to wake him up from his nap pretty soon and feed him. He really enjoyed eating a very small amount of cake for his half birthday. I can’t even think of anything else to say right now so I will go get little one fed!
