So the rest of our vacation… On Sunday we rented a 19′ power boat for the day and drove around Lake Powell. It’s a big lake! The main attraction on the lake is the Rainbow Bridge, a natural rock bridge that is apparently sacred to the Navajo Indians. We thought about going to see that, but its 3.5 hours one way from marina and we decided to pass. Instead we drove down the Navajo Canyon for a ways and then drove over to Warm Creek Bay and then over to Padre Bays. I decided I like bays! Because they are large bodies of water, the water is very calm and you can go much faster with hitting ways and bouncing all over the place. I highly recommend to just cruise around bays.
On Monday we checked out of the Lake Powell Resort and took a short tour of the Upper Antelope Canyon. This is a slot canyon located clase to Page, AZ. It was beautiful! Photos to be posted soon. After visiting the canyon we drove back to Moab and made it to Arches National Park just before sunset. We had decided to visit the Delicate Arch and first drove to see the observation point. Unfortunately this point is still a mile away from the arch and is not all that pretty. (At least not to the classic delicate arch photos that you see). So I decided to try and make the hike to the arch with about 50 minutes until sunset. A very exhausted me made it there in 45 minutes but that was really pushing it. This is a hard hike and I would allocate at least an hour to get up and 40 minutes to get down. It is very pretty up close though. It was dark by the time I made it back to the parking lot and Bernadette was starting to get worried.
The next day we spent the morning in Arches again and drove through the rest of the roads. We passed the Fiery Furnace which looks like it would be a really fun hike but requires a hiking permit or a ranger guided tour. We also did an easy hike to the Sand Dune Arch and the Broken Arch which were very nice. Afterwards, we headed home, ironically through some snow in the mountains which was very nice after the 90 weather in Arizona.
